Cage Warriors 61 to take place in Dagestan
Cage Warriors Fighting Championship have announced that its 12th event of 2013 is set to take place in the Russian republic of Dagestan.
The event, currently scheduled as Cage Warriors 61, will be held at the 5,000-capacity Ali Alieva Arena near the Dagestani capital of Makhachkala on Saturday, November 16.
Cage Warriors 61 promises to be one of the promotion’s most spectacular events yet, as CWFC makes its historic first ever visit to Dagestan, an area rich in mixed martial arts talent having produced the likes of current UFC stars Khabib Nurmagomedov and Rustam Khabilov.
Cage Warriors will also visit neighbouring Chechnya next month for Cage Warriors 58, with the promotion eager to capitalise on the potential of a region with an enormous appetite for MMA.
The way has been paved for Cage Warriors 61 in Dagestan thanks to the vision of President Ramazan Abdulatipov and Prime Minister Mukhtar Medjidov, who are keen to assist in the growth of MMA in Dagestan, as well as opening the eyes of the world to its exceptional hospitality and beautiful scenery.
Cage Warriors’ inaugural event in Dagestan will come just three weeks after CWFC Fight Night 9 in Bahrain, as the promotion continues its busy schedule of international shows.
“I’m very excited to be bringing Cage Warriors to Dagestan later this year,” said Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan. “I want to show my appreciation to both President Ramazan Abdulatipov and Prime Minister Mukhtar Medjidov, without whom this event would not be possible.
“Both men are passionate about MMA and helping to develop the sport in Dagestan. I’m delighted and privileged to have them investing in Cage Warriors, for this event and beyond.
“Dagestan has an excellent reputation in the sport of MMA. Its fighters are highly-respected in the best promotions in the world and we’ll be mixing them with some of our best UK and European talent to put on what’s guaranteed to be a memorable event, packed with top-quality fights from start to finish.”
