Thiago Alves vs Jordan Mein Set for UFC Fight Night 49

An intriguing welterweight match up between long-time UFC vet Thiago Alves (20-9 MMA, 12-6 UFC) and up-and-coming prospect Jordan Mein (28-9 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has been added to UFC Fight 49 in August.

UFC Fight Night 49 takes place August 23 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The card will be the first time the UFC puts on a show on Tulsa.

Fighting for the second time since returning from a 2 year lay off caused by a series of injuries, Alves most recent defeated Seth Baczynski by unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 11 in April. Fighting out of American Top Team, the 30-year-old has has alternated wins and losses in his last 6 bouts but will be hoping to get back to the form which seen him put together a 7 fight unbeaten streak between '06 and '08 to earn a shot at the welterweight title.

A product of Strikeforce, Jordan Mein also returned to competition from an extensive layoff at UFC on FOX 11. A 37 fight veteran, the 24-year-old Canadian made his UFC debut against Dan Miller at UFC 158 who he defeated by TKO in the first round. He was then beaten by Mike Brown but bounced back with a victory over Hernani Perpetuo.
